Target Toy Clearance January 2012: My Store Marked Down Early!!!!

So, I'm checking on the Christmas clearance at the Ward Parkway store here in KC and was annoyed that it was just 70% off.  But as I was trying to scan something I noticed that there was one markdown person working in the toys. I checked some of the toys she had marked and they were 70% off!  WHAT?!  I asked her casually if a lot of toys were getting marked down and she said, "Yeah...all 70% off."  Woo!  She went on break so I had to wait in suspense, but sure enough she came back and brought the whole markdown team with her.  They proceeded to mark down every clearance toy to 70% off (with a couple of exceptions, but 95% of everything got marked down).  I almost died!  I would have totally missed it if I hadn't been walking by that aisle at that time b/c I never even thought to check this week.

I called a friend of mine who came down but really there weren't many people at all shopping so it was a nice leisurely shopping experience!  Sadly the selection wasn't the best at this store to begin with.  There were NO Legos...not a single set.  But I found a few Disney Princess things that I wanted and a couple of great Matchbox sets, too.  I'm not complaining...we had our pick of the whole section!  Here is what I got:

Squinkies: $1.57

Tinkerbell Doll: $4.48
Orbeez Mood Lamp: $4.48
Matchbox Ship/Shark: $11.68
Matchbox Squid Set: $5.98
Motorbike: $2.83
Tiny Dino: $.74
Disney Princess big set: $9.98
Disney Princess Baby in a Bath Set: $5.98
Strawberry Shortcake Set: $5.98

Also, the camping goods and sporting goods were marked down to 70% off, too! I picked up a portable table for $20.98. Saw tents, sleeping bags, inflatable mattresses, and more. The sporting goods were also 70% off...motorized vehicles for kids, scooters, various balls and sporting equipment, and a few sets of golf clubs for $40. SO much stuff.

Seriously...I was having to force myself not to load up 3 carts.  I was good, though!  :)

NOTE:  I am almost positive that this store is only marking down early because it is going through a remodel.  I doubt that many stores around the country will be marking down today.  So don't rush out to check your store unless you are going anyway.  :)  My friend checked another store in our area and it was marking down only to 50% off.  So, I think that this is just a case of me getting really really lucky because of this remodel.  But what this tells me is that it is looking really good for all stores to go to 70% off next week.  (And, sadly, it tells me that the days of 75% off are gone).  But when it comes to Target Toy Clearance there are always surprises each year...this was a really awesome one!!  :)

  1. Went to my Target in Burlington, NC last night just to check on Christmas and shoes. I decided I better go ahead and take a glance at the toys. All the signs said 30% off, but when I picked up a few items, they were marked down 70%! Some tags still said 30 or 50 in the top right corner, but after scanning them at the price check station, they were all indeed 70% off!

  2. I went to a Target in Nashville, TN today for Christmas and found it 90%, checked toys and the few I scanned were not 70%. So I moved on. After doing more running around. I came home to see your FB post, and since I have a Target that I didn't go to this morning less than 10 minutes from my house, I went back out. I did find a few things that were 70% off, but most of it was still just 50 or 30. But unlike you I did get some lego sets. I got an Atlantis set, 70% and two cars sets both 70% off. I would have had another cars set, but it was open and when I checked the bags, bag one was missing. I also got my Fisher Price Little People Pirate ship. My son is actually too old for it, we will soon be 6, but I just fell in love with it. I'm sure he will play with enough for the money I spent on it.

But really not alot on sale, unless there was tons more and it went before noon.

I'm waiting for the huge hot wheel sets to go on sale, they are still 50%. And like you, I miss my 75%. Oh and by the way the one store I went to this morning and toys still were 50%, is being remodeled, so who knows. Like you say, a surprise every year.

  3. I will have to say that my target was also marking down buy only to 50% off. I went in there today just to grab some more balls for my son's ball pit (that he got for xmas) & said what they hey why not check to see if the toys are being marked down to 70% yet. I got the same surprise of the mark down team being there marking things down. Not to 70% yet but down to 50%. I did score a Step 2 Art easel for $24.35 (original price was $59.99)!!! So I am soooooo going to be at my store next week when they open or probably after I feed my son & get him ready, so that I can shop the clearance. Granted it is not as good as last year when I first found you & you posted about the toy clearance but since then I have been telling all my mom friends to subscribe to you. As you have great deal blogs for us! Thanks again!!

But I did see a Leapster2, Duck Hunter game, so turning out to be very intresting if the items make it to 70% off. Ill be chking Wed /Thurs morning.

  6. I checked another store here in Nashville, and most of their toys were still just 30% off. This year is driving me crazy. But maybe come next Thursday all stores will be 70% and it'll all be good.

Thanks Sara for keeping us up to date.
